Leon Redbone has been peddling the same shtick for 30-plus years, offering up a mix of classic jazz, blues and the songs of Tin Pan Alley, while looking every bit the Southern gentleman. The trademark Panama hat, impenetrably dark sunglasses and bow tie give him an other-timely look that people seem to obsess about. Here's the thing: it's neither the shtick nor the resplendent attire that makes him one of the most enduring performers of a generation - it's the music and the moments he creates on stage.

His shows mix musicology, comedy, virtuoso guitar playing and his notoriously smoky growl. Redbone's voice, in fact, is one of the most recognizable set of pipes of the past three decades, due mostly to his turns in the mainstream media — from his 1970s appearances on "Saturday Night Live" and "The Tonight Show" to his more recent work, including Bud commercials, TV theme songs ("Mr. Belvedere") and his duet with indie goddess Zooey Deschanel in the movie Elf. Redbone brings his uniquely entertaining solo act to the Saugatuck Center on Saturday, June 5 in a show that promises to be as one-of-a-kind as he is.
