It's that time once again for people to commemorate Pride. Here in West Michigan, Pride Festival is happening June 19 at Riverside Park (Grand Rapids). Originally, Pride was first celebrated more than 40 years ago to recognize the plight of gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgender persons. Today, it still gives meaning and builds solidarity to the LGBT community; however, it also provides everyone the opportunity to celebrate their own uniqueness and show appreciation for diversity. Regardless of sexuality, Pride offers an opportunity for everyone to have fun without prejudice.
