Michael Franti brings new meaning to the phrase "footloose and fancy free." Producing music since the ‘80s, Franti prefers to do performances barefoot, something he's been doing for the past 10 years. Alongside him since 1994, his band Spearhead released their latest studio album All Rebel Rockers in August 2009. With influences ranging from Bob Marley to The Clash, Franti combines reggae with hip-hop beats, electric guitar, and politically charged lyrics. "Say Hey (I Love You)," the first single off of All Rebel Rockers, is Franti's first Billboard Hot 100 single in his two-decade-plus career. With a mix of dancehall reggae and folk, this upbeat song is just one of the intriguing fusion of genres Franti explores along with his protesting lyrics. Catch Franti with Spearhead and special guest One Eskimo at the Orbit Room on June 9. If you get there early, you may get close enough to see his bare feet.
