The Smashing Pumpkins (aka Billy Corgan and whoever is in the band this week) is one of the most popular alternative rock bands to come out of the ‘90s. Songs like “Today,” “1979” and “Tonight, Tonight” are still fond in the memories of millions of people. Unfortunately, the Pumpkins have been mum for most of the last decade, only putting out two studio albums since 2001. Zeitgeist in 2007 peaked at number two on U.S. charts and was certified gold in the U.S. and New Zealand. The band’s latest album, Teagarden by Kaleidyscope, was released via smashingpumpkins.com this past December and has yet to be materialized into a physical album. Nevertheless, Corgan and company have announced a 13-city tour full of intimate venues showcasing Teagarden, the band’s first tour since late 2008. Fortunately, West Michiganders can head to the intimate Orbit Room on July 8 to indulge in Billy belting out “What I choose is my choice” and “The world is a vampire.” With its guitar-heavy songs and liberating lyrics, lifelong fans would be remiss to look past this opportunity.
