Nodes [N 42°57'47" W 85°40'07"] is a multi-media exhibition referencing states of contamination and dependence -whether these are of an extrinsic or systemic nature. Nodes [N 42°57'47" W 85°40'07"] is a sculptural wall installation paired with a video installation entitled Aguasmalas. Aguasmalas consists of two mirrored video channels and parasitic, bomb-like sculptural forms that activate the architectural space onto which the videos are projected. Images of mass rallies, protests and bombings are juxtaposed with a single, isolated body drifting, unattached, at the edge of an unidentified coast. The installation references cells, protrusions, mines or camouflaged contaminants within the architectural space, that feed on the environment they inhabit and occupy. The space serves as "biological host" to these elements, and serves as metaphors for symbiotic or parasitic relationships, where both the host and its appendix are transformed into a new hybrid site/being. The walls become a metaphor for the body/skin and sites of infestation, intrusion and disease. The work suggests a perpetual state of transition, malleability and constant movement that reflects our contemporary condition; it points as well to the fugitive nature of nodal sites of unrest, as a disruptive strategy to institutional power.

Patricia Villalobos received her MFA from West Virginia University and her BFA from Louisiana State University.
