Nathan Lareau December 9-February 16 Nathan Lareau explores the phenomenon of how sound and rhythm can exist in the world and how they can be used as compositional potentiality. By revealing the connections between music and our physical world, his work creates opportunity for an expanded knowledge of one's surroundings, making for a more enlightened way in which to perceive, understand and appreciate sensorial reality. Influenced by a background in percussion and traditional music studies, Lareau's work explores space through aural and visual compositions. Think in strategies of jazz allowed him to consider the relationship of music to art and to form his own improvisational approach, which allows for instant translation of sensual observation into musical language.
Native to the Grand Rapids area, Nathan Lareau received his MFA in Sculpture and Expanded Practice from Ohio University and his BFA in Sculpture and Music from Aquinas College. |
