Guy Nelson Individuals and Collectivists December 9-February 16 Guy Nelson's installation consists of brick-like forms created from polyurethane rubber and pink gumballs. The brick shape references a basic structural unit important for its strength and capability for greatness. Nelson is drawn to the structures, cycles, conflicts and behaviors found in life forms from plant to human and how they interact. The pieces are a human-made form, and the rubber and gum was chosen as a way to transcend that basic form into something organic. The pattern radiates, taking on a fleshly life-like feel, which is a direct reference to color as survival in the natural world, both as attraction and repulsion. These forms work together as a community or stand alone in their implied need to survive.
Guy Nelson received his BA in Sculpture and Photography from Minnesota State University.
