This Weekend's Best Bets: Feb. 5-7

So what if the groundhog saw his shadow? Six more weeks of winter might bring six more weekends like this one, packed with cars, music, winter festivals and some sort of big football game. Check out REVUE's Editor Brian Edwards with FOX-17's Emily Richett for this weekend's Best Bets.

1. HOWLING MAY ENSUE: The Cries of Wolves is an original play written by a ‘09 Calvin College grad and directed by a Calvin professor. It's based on interviews of Chechen exiles regarding a violent hostage situation and opens this weekend playing in the Lab Theatre at Calvin on Friday, Feb. 5 and Saturday, Feb. 6 at 7:30 p.m.; $5-$10.

2. VROOM VROOM: The Michigan International Auto Show comes to DeVos Place on Friday, Feb. 5 and Saturday, Feb. 6 and Sunday, Feb. 7 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. It features more than 35 car manufacturers from around the world and has a Million Dollar Motorway Lineup, with models from Maserati, Porsche and Aston Martin; $4-$10.

3. PADDY G: Performing at Dr. Grins on Friday, Feb. 5 and Saturday, Feb. 6 at 8 and 10:30 p.m. is Pat Godwin, a favorite of the Bob and Tom radio show. Also known as Paddy G, he's released comedy tracks such as "Gangsta Folk" and "Nobody Speaks English Anymore;" $10.

4. JUST IN TIME FOR THE 14TH: Womyn's Equality, a student group at WMU, will present The Vagina Monologues at the Dalton's Center Recital Hall on Friday, Feb. 5 and Saturday, Feb. 6 at 8 p.m. to benefit the V-Day Campaign, a global non-profit that raises funds for women's anti-violence groups; $5.

5. COLD AND CRAZY: Radio station WYCE and the West Michigan Blues Society present the 2010 Cabin Fever Blues Series featuring Lil' Ed and the Blues Imperials playing Chicago style blues. The series continues next Saturday and takes place at Billy's Lounge starting at 8 p.m.; $10.

6. STILL SNOWING: Celebrate the winter season during Snowfest in Muskegon, which began Feb. 2. With happy hour and events like Broomball and the Battle of the Bowls, in which Muskegon restaurants compete for the best chili and soup in town, the Snowfest continues on Friday, Feb. 5 and ends Saturday, Feb. 6.

7. CLASSIC ART: As part of the its classical series, the Grand Rapids Symphony presents a Beethoven Violin Concerto featuring Shostakovich with Augustin Hadelich on violin and Larry Rachleff as guest conductor on Friday, Feb. 5 and Saturday, Feb. 6 at 8 p.m.; $18-$90.

8. WHAT HAPPILY EVER AFTERS?: Into the Woods is an irreverent look at the world of fairy tales, wondering what if Little Red Riding Hood was bloodthirsty or if Prince Charming was a Casanova? The Grand Valley State University Opera theatre presents this original tale, playing on Friday, Feb. 5 and Saturday, Feb. 6 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 7 at 2 p.m.; $12-15.

9. Joseph Cashore and his marionettes travel the world performing skilled and touching puppetry set to classical music, and he's coming to the Knickerbocker Theatre at Hope College on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 2 and 7:30 p.m.; $6-$17.

Good Bets: Mid-Life Crisis will perform at One Trick Pony on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 8 p.m...South Haven is hosting its IceBreaker Festival from Feb. 5 to Feb. 7 with Texas Hold ‘Em tournament and more...Gladys Knight will perform at Soaring Eagle Casino on Friday, Feb. 5 at 8 p.m.
