Give love what it deserves — a "kick in the pants," according to Latesha Lipscomb, owner of I GOT FACE, Cosmetic Concierge. The full service team of beauty professionals specializes in make-up, hair, male grooming, wardrobe styling and more. With 14 years in the business, Lipscomb transforms drab to fab.
"What's trending in hair is the messy bun look, side ponytails are making a comeback and braids are simple but sexy," Lipscomb said. "There's nothing sexier than the nape of a woman's neck."
Sultry secrets for a Valentine's Day makeover lean toward the power of a smoky eye and, of course, a red lip to liven complexions, but what about the dudes?
"Men have some of the same questions women have when it comes to looking their best," said Lipscomb, who recommends a moisturizing skincare regimen, well-groomed hair and a nice lip balm to be "kiss ready."
Instant glamour is what Lipscomb is preaching.
"Makeup is my ministry. Don't be afraid to fall in love with cosmetics. I want women to feel bold, unafraid and here to live out loud."
And living well is the best revenge, right? Surround yourself with the best accessories, clothing and, wait for it... records from i heart ipanema (115 W. Lovell, Kalamazoo).
Carrying 40 local designers, the fashion forward shop is a "nice mix of all of my favorite things," says Co-Owner Nicole Angelo, whose husband Ben also owns the store.
From jewelry, hair things, men's wallets, hand-selected vintage items and lines such as Jack by BB Dakota, there's room for improvement or a romantic renovation. So, who's up for some mood music?
"Records have a nice sound to them. We carry a lot of older music," said Angelo, who suggests picking out tunes that might mean something to your person, a favorite band or a love song. "The thing with records-it creates that ambiance."
Get in that Valentine's Day state of mind with a soundtrack for your flirty dresses, cute tights, heels and super sparkly earrings. If you have a more conservative look, go for simple, fun cocktail rings or something easy like one-of-a-kind necklaces.
"We carry a lot of lacy things. Lace has been a big trend. It's very feminine."
