Pulitzer Prize finalist Susan Choi is touring on the legs of her latest novel, A Person of Interest. Choi is a novelist who previously authored 1950s period pieces The Foreign Student and American Woman, the story of a group of radical, anti-American protesters. A Person of Interest breaks the mold for her writing in some ways, introducing a male protagonist who is more of an anti-hero than a revolutionary. Already a hit, it's bound to put her on the same prize-winning track as her first two successes. Her presentation will focus on the inspiration for A Person of Interest and how the book came to be.

What's a better way to follow up on trick or treating than with a Day of the Dead celebration with a horror writer? Joe Schreiber and Kazoo Books are offering just that. Schreiber, who originally hails from Portage and now lives in Pennsylvania, is the author of several novels meant to send chills down readers' spines. His latest effort, No Doors, No Windows, does just that, telling the story of a writer who finds his father's old ghost story manuscript and finishes the job-that is, if he can. In addition to appealing to the horror fan in us all, Schreiber brings out the inner geek with his Star Wars novel, Death Troopers. He'll be speaking about his chosen genres and how they connect with the grand tradition of Dia de los Muertes.

More than 300 of Linda Nemec Foster's poems have seen publication in literary journals, reviews and magazines. A number of those same poems made their way into seven poetry collections. The latest, Amber Necklace from Gdansk, was inspired by the author's Eastern European heritage and desire to find her place in family history. She also has her place in West Michigan's literary history, having been named Grand Rapids' first poet laureate. Nemec Foster will be discussing her poetry and signing copies of her work.
