Normally, 25th anniversaries are celebrated with some sort of vacation or lavish party.
Not Bell's Brewery.
In 2010, the company celebrated its 25th year in business with major expansion plans. One of the major projects is a $3 million renovation project aimed at making the downtown venue a bigger player in the city's live music scene.
"We want to bring bigger and better entertainment to Kalamazoo," said Bell's Retail Manager Jason Reicherts. "We can now hold everything from local to national acts, which will hopefully attract more college students."
The new music venue, which opened in the beginning of 2011, was a transformation of a former warehouse behind the Eccentric Café. The unrecognizable warehouse is now capable of housing more than 300 people, complete with a stage, sound equipment, lighting, bathrooms, a bar, and a green room for performers. This new venue is already housing a slew of local performers such as Hullabaloo, Lubriphonic, and Greensky Bluegrass.
When temperatures heat up, so will the eccentric café by combining the outdoor beer garden and patio. The combination will pave the way for national acts to perform and allow for crowds of approximately 1,000 people.
In addition to the added music venue, the café offers a warm atmosphere where visitors can enjoy a variety of appetizers, salads, and sandwiches. And, as always, the brewery will be serving up many of its well-known beers, as well as a small batch of brews not distributed outside of the pub.
