That's the beauty of Mustache-a-Palooza!, a quirky local music festival designed to pay homage to the king of all facial hair. An artist like Tapper will be thrown into the melting pot with a band like Ghosts of the Great Lakes, which will both perform at Papa Pete's in Kalamazoo for the event.

MUSTACHE-A-PALOOZA! Two-day local music festival Papa Pete's, Kalamazoo Oct. 1-2, $5, 18+ |
"I am very excited to be playing with artists from other genres," said Tapper, who plays alongside keyboardist Brendan May. "It's always fun to go to shows and hear a wide variety of music rather than the same band 10 times."
For the first time in the event's illustrious history, Mustache-a-Palooza! morphed into a two-day show to accommodate such a high demand of bands willing and wanting to perform.
The end product is a show designed for no other purpose than fun, with bands and concert-goers encouraged to sport mustaches, either real or fake (so no excuses ladies).
"Primarily, I just want everyone to come out and have fun," said Devon Bynon, guitarist for Kalamazoo-based indie rock band Hello Victor., which is also the brains behind the event. "Just the energy, company, music and all the elements involved each year make it worth it."
Perhaps fun isn't the only thing on the agenda as a percentage of the cover charge and additional donations will be sent to the Children's Hospital of Bronson in Kalamazoo.
"Sadly, I had not heard of Mustache before I was asked to play," Tapper said. "I do think the facial hair thing is fun and I hope a lot of people grow real mustaches for the event. I'm especially excited to be a part of a show that donates part of its proceeds to the Bronson Children's Hospital. It's put on for a great cause."
But, why mustaches? Jake Simmons of Jake Simmons and the Little Ghosts explains.
"A good ‘stache is about the manliest thing you can have on your face," said Simmons, who will be performing this year. "That, or a tattoo of a bald eagle riding a motorcycle out of a volcano. The bald eagle would have a mustache, though."
Stacey Koziel, Trixy Disco, Brena, Patience, Patients, Their Teeth Will Be Of Lions, Analecta, Jeremy Cronk, Spoofed, The Mushmen, Elm Street Riot, Glennerd and the Bastard Few, Branden Mann and the Reprimand, Ghosts of the Great Lakes, Simmons and Tapper are all slated to perform.
