Apparently critically acclaimed R&B singer Janelle Monae will stick around Grand Rapids for an extra day after her opening gig for Katy Perry on Sept. 11 at the Van Andel Arena.
Calvin College has confirmed that Monae will play a show on Sept. 12 at the Grand Rapids-based school's Covenant Fine Arts Center. General admission ticket to the show are $30, and are scheduled to go on sale Monday, June 13 at Calvin's box office or by calling 616-526-6282. An opening act will be announced at a later date.
Monae won critical acclaim for her 2010 release The ArchAndroid(Suites II and III), which featured a mix of funk, neo-soul, art rock and pop. The Kansas City, Kan. native earned a Grammy nomination for the song “Many Moons,” which appeared on her debut EP, Metropolis: Suite 1 (The Chase). She followed the EP in 2010 with her first full-length studio album, The ArchAndroid, which topped many critics’ lists and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary R&B Album.
