Grand Rapids’ newest sports venue just announced it will host a familiar in-state rivalry when the University of Michigan and Michigan State University bring their men’s and women’s soccer teams to Amway Stadium on Saturday, April 10, 2027.
The exhibition doubleheader will mark the first collegiate and women’s soccer matches at the new 8,500-seat downtown stadium, which is scheduled to open in spring 2027. The event is also the first announced non-tenant booking for the venue, which will serve as the home of Athletic Club Grand Rapids, West Michigan’s new MLS NEXT Pro team.
The stadium’s first sporting event will take place March 19, 2027, when AC Grand Rapids hosts its inaugural home match. The team will begin its first season on the road in February as part of MLS NEXT Pro’s Sprint Season, which runs through May.
"The West Michigan Sports Commission is proud to work with Legends Global and the Convention Arena Authority to highlight our new asset, Amway Stadium,” said Mike Guswiler, President of the West Michigan Sports Commission. “Hosting this in-state rivalry at this incredible venue will excite both our soccer community and alumni from these schools. It is sure to be one of many impactful events at this new venue.”
The April doubleheader will bring two of Michigan’s biggest collegiate athletic programs to West Michigan, with additional non-tenant events expected to be announced as the stadium prepares to welcome professional, collegiate, amateur and community sports.
Tickets for the exhibition doubleheader will be available to the public. Fans can sign up for the stadium’s VIP email list at AmwayStadium.com to receive notifications when tickets go on sale.
